About Us

Special Olympics is sports and so much more. It is a movement that transforms lives by inspiring inclusion, understanding and respect for people of all abilities, both on the playing field and in communities throughout the state. Special Olympics West Hartford was founded in 1969 and is comprised of 130 active athletes, 17 coaches and assistant coaches, 15 unified partners, and 50 volunteers. Special Olympics provides participants with the education and resources to gain self-esteem, develop life-changing athletic and social skills, and maintain a healthy lifestyle. SOWH used the last 2 years to focus on becoming healthy athletes through multiple virtual activities every week. We focused on nutrition, hydration, exercise, and mental preparedness to be a successful athlete. There are opportunities for everyone to have a meaningful and rewarding experience as part of Special Olympics West Hartford - as an athlete, unified partner, coach, volunteer, supporter or fan. SOWH would love you to join our team!
