Mercy Community health encompasses many different care facilities.  Give us an overview of the “continuum of senior care” philosophy.

Mercy Community Health offers senior care at all levels. The original facility, Saint Mary Home, was built in 1880.  Founded by the Sisters of Mercy, Saint Mary Home focuses on skilled nursing, adult day care, Alzheimer’s/dementia care, residential care and short-term rehabilitation.  Also on campus is The McAuley, an independent and assisted living community.  Soon, we are looking forward to adding The Terrace at Mercyknoll, which will feature beautiful apartment living for independent seniors.  Mercy Community HomeCare provides seniors living in their homes with a range of healthcare and home companion services.

MCH’s mission is rooted in faith. Explain how Mercy sets themselves apart from other care facilities.

Mercy Community Health follows in the tradition of the Sisters of Mercy, emphasizing respect for human dignity. The result is an environment dedicated to meeting each person's medical and spiritual needs.  The Sisters of Mercy, who originally founded Saint Mary Home in the late 1800s as a means of caring for elderly poor, still have that as their mission .  Just as one example of how this is a part of our culture, each year around the holidays, MCH collects donations from  residents to support two local shelters.  Whether they are able to donate new winter clothes or just the spare change in their pocket, residents are aware of the need and readily support the less fortunate.  This builds a sense of community and continuously strengthens our mission.

MCH recently expanded to cyberspace.  Explain how this addition connects to your mission.

Mercy Community Health recently launched the MCH Marketplace.  The E-commerce site is rich with health-related information and stocked with equipment and products.  This enables us to extend our mission and of health and wellness beyond our residents and clients.  The online marketplace is an easy way to find products recommended to patients by their doctors.  The MCH Marketplace bridges the gap between patients and their recommended care by offering a simple way to access anything they need to continue their care.  Founded on the mission of health and wellness, Mercy now offers these services via the internet, making us accessible to everyone in the West Hartford community as a go-to health resource.

MCH has been a tremendous supporter of the Chamber.  Explain how you have benefited from the partnership.

Chamber membership has been an integral part of our success.  By hosting the Chamber’s Business After Hours event, we welcomed more than 100 business professionals onto our campus.  Sponsoring the Chamber’s golf tournament at Wampanoag Country Club enabled us to talk to members of the community and educate them about the breadth of opportunities available at Mercy Community Health.  Being an active Chamber member has helped build community awareness about our business.  We look forward to our continued  support of the Chamber and the West Hartford community.
